JO MINHUI

“Memory" is the "past" that lives and breathes in the present.

JO Minhui is an artist who explores the vast subject of "memory", an invisible trace of time.

Her work began with questions about the traces of memory inherent with the relativity of time she felt while spending her childhood in the watch shop her father managed.

Her artistic thought, influenced by Bergson's concept of "duration", clearly shows that "moments" are not simply lined up, but are interconnected, and that the past, present, and future intersect and interact in the flow of time.

She expresses the concept of invisible time - which is not directly visible - in her own way by artistically reconstructing various collections and records of memories through perception and sensory organs, and materializes the concept of time by connecting moments of the past to the present.

In addition, these records find a point of contact with the collective experience beyond personal experience, and provide an opportunity for the audience to review their memories.

Her art is the result of relentless research and trials to function as a medium forming empathy and cultural memory, beyond the simple reproduction of memory.
